Yeah I heard the same thing about all Asians, it's a part of their culture.

Lived in Japan. Never saw that. They keep their shoes right behind the front door and change into slippers or go barefoot on the tatami. I heard that in Hong Kong people have shoe racks outside their doors, but can't confirm first hand.
