i did this a few times in the past, especially for a few pairs of boots... well, boots insoles, they are usually fantastic, they have foot prnts, they have smell, they look sexy 
once i grabbed a friend's neighbours boots insoles and hide them by packing them by folding them into a very small size so the insoles keep the great smell for nearly 1 month
