Yeah they're super hard to track down these days since they just get lumped with the new versions. I lucked out on an auction a while back for these babies. Nice soft fabric and leather, too bad the tongue is deteriorating and getting crackly and sticky.

I agree the quality of Superstars have gone downhill. I buy a pair every two years or so over the last 20 years and I know from own experience how long they lasted in the beginning and how quick the inner fabric gets damaged after a few months nowadays.

It's not even just sups. It's been across the board. Chucks, nikes, sups. A lot of it is made to a cost, and made to be worn out within a season.
The early 2000s were a great time for sexy 70s-80s inspired leather sneakers. Adidas Sups and Country ripples, Puma Street Cats, Nike Cortez, Reebok Classics and even the leather Saucony Jazz. On top of that most of these had some hot mule versions too! Being a teen at the time, it was paradise for me being surrounded by all those sexy sneakers.

Yes I agree around 2000 was a very good time for spotting sexy sneakers. Puma had some great models that time in Europe with Speedcats, Mestre/Torceira, Sprint, Avanti. To my opinion they have never been able to deliver so many sexy models one after the other. Nowadays their creativity seems to have dried up, at least for my taste.

The old ones had massive sole structures, thicker fabric and a better fit...

while the current ones are pure cheap trash.

It's a bit better when you buy the ones that have a "leather" inner like the Stan Smiths. Those last longer on the inside (the insole can/must be replaced tho).
But even the Stan Smith and Gazelle, both long-runners back then, now have only this grid-type sole structure which breaks under pressure, lets water in too soon, ... it's a shame.

I also don't remember the old superstars ripping apart at the front where the plastic shell ends.

Too bad the old ones now crumble apart after around 20 years - the tongue upper can be brushed to the bare fabric (needs some effort, but is well worth it)

and the plastic stripes break, and the softer ones als tend to crumble.

But that's the same for my favorite model "Country"

I'm glad I still own a pair made in 2008, which still looks like new...

Sometimes I buy those really old ones just to get the tags for my own Adidas, then sell them again

Those are hot! Such a shame they are hard to find nowadays.
