For now I'm using wood sticks wrapped with Polartec cloth for simulate the legs, also, some old socks for stuff the vamps, ankles and toe boxes.
Maybe you should get a pair of mannequin legs for a better experience, I'm in that situation too

Mmm... the foam is a pretty good idea.
