I have many times, but it's VERY rare that I think it's the right opportunity to give a compliment.
Today I was fortunate enough to be working briefly with a small group of Chinese people at an airline. There was this very cute young nerdy Chinese girl with glasses and she had black pants but these AMAZING patent leather black flats with a cute little bow, while all the other women wore more boring 'work pumps'. She SOOOO deserved a compliment!
Firstly, I made sure I took a few pics of her little cuties while I had the chance. Then, I waited for the right opportunity to say something. I waited for it to be just me and her, as I felt self conscious saying something in front of the other people.
Just as I thought my chance was gone, the others left and she was sitting on the chair next to her older colleague, another Chinese airline girl.
I said "So that's it, job finished!" and they said "Yes!" and smiled.
Then I said, with only about 10 seconds before some more of my workmates entered the room, "Pretty shoes!" and maybe she didnt fully understand and neither did her workmate. So I repeated "Your shoes, they're pretty!" and she replied with a shy young girl giggle, obviously not expecting it but enjoying that her shoes were noticed... I hope so anyway!
This was a LOT of fun for me, just letting a lovely young lady know that her shoes were so cute.
I am going to try to do this more often, and encourage any of you to do the same.
